12,000 Nepalis to be repatriated from abroad in first phase

Kathmandu: The government has decided to repatriate only 12,000 Nepalis from abroad in the first phase, who are in dire need of evacuation, though the earlier decision was to evacuate 30,000 stranded Nepalis from abroad.

The officials said the first phase of evacuation process will be completed by June 30 by operating more than 80 chartered international flights.

The remaining stranded Nepalis would be evacuated in the second phase which will be based on the priority and recommendation of the Foreign Ministry.

The government has prepared a list of stranded Nepali from around 30 countries who need evacuation and repatriation based on priority.
The government has already succeeded in repatriating more than 5,000 Nepalis from various countries through chartered flights.

More than 4,000 foreigners stranded in Nepal due to lockdown following Coronavirus scare also have been flown back to their respective countries.
