London: The updated height of Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world is 8,848.86 meters.
The new height was disclosed jointly by Nepal and China amid a special ceremony on Tuesday. The height was measured by Nepal for the first time by using its manpower and resources, in coordination with Chinese technicians and surveyors.
During Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit last year, Nepal and China had agreed to jointly announce the height.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on November 25 had given the approval to the ministry to disclose the new height of Mt. Everest.
The widely accepted height of 8,848 meters was measured by India in 1954.
