With 189 more people testing positive for coronavirus, Nepal’s COVID-19 tally soars to 1401

KATHMANDU, May 30: With 189 more people testing positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours in various parts of the country, Nepal’s COVID-19 tally has climbed to 1401, the Ministry of Health and Population said.

Spokesperson for the ministry, Bikash Devkota, told a daily press conference on Saturday afternoon that Teku-based National Public Health Laboratory alone detected 124 new cases of coronavirus in which 77 cases are from Kapilvastu.

Dhanusa has witnessed seven new cases of coronavirus, Jhapa and Lalitpur districts have reported one new case each, and Mahottari and Rautahat districts have recorded 4 and six new cases of COVID-19. Sarlahi and Siraha districts have witnessed 17 and 11 new cases of coronavirus, according to the spokesperson.

During tests carried out in Rupandehi, 36 new COVID-19 cases were detected in the past 24 hours in which 29 cases are from Kapilvastu. BP Koirala Health Science Academy, Dharan, has reported nine new coronavirus cases. Dang-based Rapti Health Sciences Academy recorded 17 new COVID-19 cases. Karnali Health Sciences Academy reported 14 new coronavirus cases. Biratnagar-based Koshi Hospital reported two new cases of coronavirus.

Of the infected persons, 1288 are males while 113 are females, the spokesperson said.

“The number of coronavirus cases has rapidly increased because the government has gradually expanded the scope of testing in various parts of the country,” he said.

According to the Health Ministry, 66729 tests have been carried out through PCR method across the country as of today. Likewise, 10755 tests have been conducted through RTD method in various parts of the country.

“Currently, there are 110,000 persons are at various quarantine facilities across the country,” Devkota added.
